This work appears to be an intabulation of a vocal piece, presumably of Italian origin. No relationship to any surbviving vocal piece is known.
The imitative style, particularly of the last section is the part most suggestive of a vocal work. The fact that Valderrábano has included it among the “sonetos” is presumably because he, too, was uncertain of its origins and identity. This piece is Soneto XXVIII in the Pujol edition.
