Commentary

Fantasia supposedly based on the Pleni sunt caeli section from the Sanctus of an unidentified Mass by Noel Bauldoin. This work has not been identified to date. The fantasia is largely through composed and non-imitative, apart from one brief section. The instruction in the title asks the player “to lower the fret a little towards the soundhole”. This strengthens the Pythagorean temperament.

Short work: 86 compases. Fretting instruction: sharpens 4th fret. In this case effect is to make the Bb sharper and more lively. The tabla gives the author of the pleni “de una misa de Bauldoin” = Baldeweyn.
Through composed, non-imitative largely. Begins with T melody = Theme 1.
Theme 2, however is more important, begins at 3, 8 compases long. Then free to 25. At 26, 2 is given again in B, then follows a second section formed from use of a falling 3rd as theme 3 central idea – imitation. Cadences in motion prolong this section to 61. Theme 4 makes several appearance as a motive in all voices in this somewhat imitative passage >> 79 – 86 free.
