Fantasia suelta of 117 compases. Clear texture, lucid. Easily played. Opening theme (1) is not imitated, but rather repeated in various voices in varied guise.
Theme 2 appears as an imit motive a 21 to 35. Then free “melodic” polyphony drawing some attention to a simple E – F – E head cell first seen at compas 4.
Free polyphony leads to imits of 3 with same semitone head, something of a culmination and then free polyphony to the end. Like many of Valderrabano’s fantasias, Pujol’s transcription suppresses the beautiful use he makes of suspensions e.g. the preparation of the final cadence, & 79-82.
Opening & later (36 ff) are fine examples of Valderrabano’s free polyphonic style.
