Polythematic imitative fantasia.
More sectionalized than first meets the eye. All cadences are taken in passing. Mode = 4 predominantly although S has greater range. Clear transparent texture throughout, great beauty. Melodically built on a number of ascend and descend thematic motives, which reappear in different sections giving unity and melodic balance, and helping the general flow. The work is quite compressed. Valderrábano doesn’t work exhaustively with polyphonic thematic treatment, his style is much looser, but there is a generally consistent thrust within each little section. Work finishes on A major Chord: = dom. Of mode 4.
