Polythematic, partially imitative.
Quite pleasant, approachable, and playable, but rather amorphous. Even though cadences are well enough placed there is not much melodic structure.
Opens with nice imitation. 2nd section (Bar 19ff) introduces 2nd theme in imitation, which dissolves into meandering a few bars later and continues for another 40 bars without much purpose. Reminiscent of a vocal style – but without functional word element becomes rather pointless. – Good example of inadequacy of through composed vocal style as instrumental idiom.
