Non-imitative, through composed fantasia. Unusual, first of Pisador’s in this style. Has quite a bit of mood because of its mode, but is rambling and shows little evidence of structure. Many technical weaknesses, and result is a little boring – like an unfocused madrigal or motet. Some bad voice leading & cadences first 15 bars show prominence of E – F – E idea, 28ff brings C. Q C rhythm in bass (forms theme 2). Little Quaver imit at 40-42. Theme 1 = incipit only; theme 2 occurs only twice perhaps stretching things a bit far, but the formula of the previous works might fit on a 14 bar unit: I 1-14 (E-F-E): 15-28 free; III 28-42 (C. Q C C) idea; IV 43-57 free ?
Performance of work doesn’t make it obvious at all. Am I reading too much in?
