Monothematic fantasia. Quite representative of Pisador’s cantus firmus fantasias. Quite competently realized ideas, including some very beautiful passages. Overall formal shape in reasonable: nice use of duos for contrast, and full a4 textures. Some awkward writing in patches [eg 5, 6] (= bars).
Gets very good mileage from his theme, and there are mainly partial statements – thus the descend 3rd gains considerable prominence. Particularly skilful is the inter locking canons of the theme, and the stretto a3 from 25-29 is a beautiful passage and example. There is much more imitative use of the theme than cantus firmus use.
