Theme might be thought of a mode 5. Work opens with SA – TB voice pairs, thereafter it is entirely cantus firmus texture with theme in all voices. Some bars of free polyphony. Cumbersome and awkward to play. Although the harmonization of the theme seems adequate, the work is poor in construction and music. No harmonic direction, phrase shaping. Dense unapproachable texture. No harmonic variety. No rhythmic interest. Theme only given in 2 transpositions (Orig + 1 other). No harmonic shape or structure. Cadences generally poor other than final A minor type.
